Vital — Care Companion
A HIPAA-compliant mobile app trusted by 240k patients.
Overview
Vital wanted to reduce avoidable ER visits by giving patients proactive, personalized guidance between appointments.
We built native iOS and Android apps that sync wearable vitals and surface an AI triage assistant — all within a strict HIPAA-compliant boundary.
The Challenge
Health data is unforgiving: every byte is regulated, every recommendation carries clinical weight, and patient trust is fragile.
The app had to feel effortless for non-technical patients while satisfying a hospital compliance board.
“We needed clinical-grade rigor wrapped in consumer-grade simplicity. Most vendors could deliver one or the other.”
Our Approach
- 01
Discovery
Shadowed care teams and patients to map real-world journeys and compliance constraints.
- 02
Design
Accessibility-first design system validated with patients aged 18 to 82.
- 03
Development
Native apps with an encrypted on-device cache and a privacy-preserving ML triage service.
- 04
Testing
Clinical validation, penetration testing, and a full HIPAA security assessment.
- 05
Launch
Phased rollout across regions with real-time monitoring of clinical safety metrics.
The Solution
Vital pairs wearable vitals with an AI assistant that escalates concerning patterns to care teams, all inside an audited, encrypted architecture.
